How to apply

The application deadline for our second round of funding was April 22nd 2013 so we are no longer taking any more applications. Please check back around July to find out about our next funding opportunity.

How to apply: To begin with, we need ideally just one page (two pages maximum) covering:

  1. Who you are (especially in relation to the issue you’re working on e.g. if you are a group working on gender equality, are you a group of women, men or a mixed group?)
  2. Your group’s annual income from donations, grants etc
  3. What you do
  4. How you fit the guidelines on the What we Fund page (please also read the checklists)
  5. Briefly, how much you need and what this might be spent on

Email this to edgefund (at) riseup.net or call or text 0776 712 6915 and we’ll arrange for someone to take down these details for you. We will confirm all applications received a day or two after the deadline, if you’ve not received confirmation of receipt after this, please get in touch.

YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE READ BY OUR MEMBERS AND MAY BE SHARED WITH OTHER APPLICANTS DEPENDING ON WHAT STAGE YOU REACH IN THE PROCESS.

Maximum grant: We are a very small fund. In our first round we had £40,000 in total to distribute and the largest grant was just over £2,000. Grants are not likely to be more than £5,000. We hope to be able to give larger amounts as the fund grows. The longer-term aim is for Edge to be funded by many individuals giving what they can, all donations very welcome!

Deadline: The next deadline is midnight 22 April 2013.  After the deadline members will collectively shortlist the applications. Shortlisted applicants will need to provide more details via written, audio or video applications or in person – we’re available to help with this process where needed.

Timescale: As we are a very new fund, which makes decisions collectively and democratically, it will likely take 3 – 4 months before a decision is made on your application.

Please help us spread the word about Edge Fund, especially if you work with groups who do not usually have connections to funding sources. We’re brand new, and whilst we’ve taken time to figure everything out so far, we recognise there’s still lots of work to do; we’re ever-evolving so please feel free to get in touch with any suggestions, particularly about how we can make funding more accessible.

If you’d like to take part in deciding how funds are distributed next time, please apply to become a member.

You can find out more about the values underpinning the application process by reading our funding values.

I think this is potentially an explosive idea and I hope that black marginalised groups will be better represented as funding recipients as it has been well documented how badly black groups fare in the traditional funding structure.

  3. This is great. We’ve just sent in an application. Until now, groups like ours (Real Fathers for Justice) could only get funding if we compromised our ideals.

  9. The LGBT community in Jinja Uganda have real needs and need your help. The LGBT people who are living in hiding and fear lack even the basics of life. They are not free people and can’t provide for themselves. Stand with me and try to put a smile on their faces (not to mention save their lives). Your donation goes towards medication, feeding, housing and the payment for the related bills and costs. Click here http://www.gofundme.com/gehouganda to make a donation. Every dollar counts and can make a big change.

I just received this email informing us about your fund, it is really encouraging to know that you accept applications from small groups, I am member of Women lead group which has been formed recently to support African women specially Somali women both here in Wales and in Africa. We really could do with your support and resources to help those disadvantaged communities to improve and change their life through our empowerment projects.
    Many thanks
